Westervelt, Johnson, Nicoll & Keller LLC's roots date back to the Civil War when the firm was founded by Alexander McCoy and John S. Stevens in 1865. While serving as leader of the Illinois House of Representatives, Alexander McCoy successfully sponsored the motion that the 13th amendment to the U.S. Constitution, banning slavery, be ratified. His partner, John S. Stevens, was counsel for many prominent businesses and financial institutions in central Illinois.
Today, the oldest continuous law firm in Peoria is still committed to seeing that justice is done . . . and that the needs of commerce are served.
